Flight Training

ASI’s flight training program offers instruction at each level of certification from Private Pilot through Airline Transport Pilot. ASI’s staff of professional instructors is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in each area of instruction.

When training with ASI, you will be guided through your training by a course syllabus especially designed for the course you have chosen. This syllabus allows you to be knowledgeable of the course requirements and also keep track of your progress.

ASI flies Cessna 172 airplanes exclusively in our training program. Using this aircraft ensures that you experience an airplane ranked highest in safety and quality. Consistent use of the same aircraft provides a feeling of comfort; you know you will be flying in the same type airplane each time you fly. ASI operates its own maintenance department to ensure that the airplanes are maintained in excellent condition.

ASI offers academic ground training in a formal group class environment or in a one-on-one situation. A formal ground school is scheduled each quarter. The classes usually meet once a week for a ten week period. Our ground schools utilize lecture periods, slide presentations, video presentations, and group discussion periods. We also include tours of the Chattanooga Air Traffic Control Facility. The classes are conducted in a relaxed and comfortable environment. Upon completion of the course, you will be prepared to take the FAA written knowledge examination for the certificate or rating you are pursuing. This written examination may be taken in the ASI CATS (computer assisted testing service) lab located in our Chattanooga facility.

ASI trains from both the Collegedale and Chattanooga airports. This unique combination of airspace gives each client the exposure required to operate at controlled and uncontrolled airports with confidence. The Chattanooga airspace is especially suited for training because each type of instrument approach is available without a high volume of traffic. Training efficiency is maximized because students do not have to travel to other remote locations or experience delays due to sequencing with other aircraft.

ASI also offers training in our Elite PCATD simulator. This flight simulator device provides the opportunity to train under realistic challenging circumstances. Training in the simulator allows the instructor to introduce situations that would not be practical in the airplane. The ability to simulate emergency and abnormal situations is invaluable in perfecting piloting techniques and procedures. The simulator is approved for maintaining instrument proficiency and currency. It is an excellent means of staying proficient at a fraction of the cost of flying an airplane. Every approach procedure in the United States is available for practice. So if you are planning a trip to an unfamiliar airport with a challenging approach or missed approach procedure, a practice session in the simulator will prepare you for the upcoming challenge.

ASI participates in the AOPA Pinch Hitters program offering a course each quarter. This nationally recognized program is an excellent familiarization course for non-pilots who want to be more comfortable while flying in private airplanes. The course provides the non-pilot the basic skills needed to fly the airplane in the unlikely event a pilot becomes incapacitated. The course consists of both ground and flight training. Clients completing the course acquire a level of confidence that enhances their enjoyment of flying.

We welcome you to visit our facility and experience the friendly and professional atmosphere that prevails at ASI.
